DANIEL ABREU

A dancer and choreographer born in Tenerife, Daniel Abreu began his journey fueled by a deep curiosity for physical movement and scenic expression. His artistic evolution is complemented by a Degree in Psychology, a discipline that profoundly informs both his choreographic narrative and his pedagogical approach.

As a performer, he has collaborated with premier Spanish companies such as Provisional Danza and Matarile Teatro. As a creator, he boasts an extensive career with over eighty productions presented internationally, earning widespread acclaim from critics, audiences, and prestigious institutions.

Since founding his own company in 2004, Abreu has developed a singular artistic language that merges dance and theater through a visual, symbolic, and poetic lens. His creative reach extends to directing projects for ensembles and creators in Cyprus, Italy, Croatia, Poland, and Spain. Notable recent works include the award-winning La Materia (with Olga Pericet) and Canarii (with Olga Cerpa and Mestisay). Additionally, he served as the Artistic Director of Lava Compañía de Danza (Auditorio de Tenerife) for two years.

His career has been distinguished by the industry’s most prestigious honors, including:

  • Spanish National Dance Award 2014 (Creation category).

  • Max Awards: Best Choreography 2024 (La Materia); Best Dance Production, Best Choreography, and Best Male Performer 2018 (La Desnudez).

  • Réplica Awards: Best Dance Production 2024 (Canarii); Best Production, Best Costume Design, and Best Original Soundtrack 2019 (Abisal).

  • Godot Award 2023: Best Male Dance Performer for Dalet (Da).

  • Ciudad de Cazorla Theater Award 2020.

Other Honors: Best Direction (Santander INDIFESTIVAL 2010); Jury Prize for Choreography and AISGE Foundation Award (XVIII Madrid Choreographic Contest 2005); and Outstanding Dancer (IV Maspalomas Choreographic Contest 1999). In 2015, he was named Distinguished Son (Hijo Predilecto) by the Illustrious City Council of La Matanza de Acentejo.
